Sapperton, Uptown, Downtown and the Quay, the West End, Queensborough — most of the city is a short trip from most of the rest. That sounds like trivia. It is actually the thing that makes short-notice childcare work better here than in almost any other municipality on our list.
Why compactness matters for short notice
Hourly childcare is booked online with 24 hours' notice and a three-hour minimum, everywhere we operate. That is the standing rule and it does not bend by city.
What changes between cities is how much slack sits behind the rule. In a sprawling municipality, a caregiver available tomorrow evening might still be an unworkable match because they are forty minutes from your address. In New Westminster, a caregiver who is free is usually also near enough, because nearly everywhere is near enough.
The practical consequence: a booking placed at the 24-hour mark is more likely to be filled well here than in a district where availability and proximity are two separate problems.
Queensborough counts, fully
Queensborough sits across the water on Lulu Island, which makes people assume it is an exception. It is not. Coverage explicitly includes Queensborough on the same terms as the rest of New Westminster — same rates, no travel surcharge, no separate arrangement.
Worth saying plainly because families there are used to being an asterisk on service maps. Here it is not one.
What a New West booking looks like
Hourly childcare is $32/hr for children 12 months and over, $38/hr where a child under 12 months is present, $36/hr for after-school pickup and care, and $36/hr overnight between 10:00 PM and 6:00 AM — $42/hr overnight where an infant is present. Three-hour minimum. Every child in your home is included at no extra charge.

The towers-and-houses thing
New West has both, in close proximity — condo towers near the Quay and Uptown, older houses in the West End and Sapperton. For a caregiver arriving, the difference is entirely logistical: a lobby and a buzzer rather than a front path.
Two minutes of preparation removes the whole problem. Tell the caregiver the buzzer code or the unit number, say whether there is a fob for the elevator, and say where to park if parking is not obvious. Somebody standing outside a locked lobby at 5:55 PM is not a childcare problem, but it becomes one at 6:00.
When 24 hours is not enough
Sometimes the need is today. Online booking needs 24 hours' notice and there is no same-day option in the form — that is the honest limit of what the booking system does, and we would rather say so than imply otherwise.
