Careers at Puffin

We need 100+ caregivers across the Lower Mainland.

Puffin is growing fast, and we are hiring 100+ nannies, babysitters, postpartum doulas and pediatric specialists across all 16 municipalities we serve in the Lower Mainland and Fraser Valley.

You would be an employee, not a contractor — $20–$35/hr depending on the role and your experience, WorkSafeBC coverage, and families already matched to you. Applications are reviewed within 48–72 hours.

Open roles

Every role below is open in every municipality we serve — this is volume hiring, not one vacancy per city. Pay depends on your experience, all roles are shift-based with a three-hour minimum, and each one can be applied for in the form below.

Nanny

$24–$28/hr

In-home childcare for families across the Lower Mainland and Fraser Valley, usually with the same families over time. Shifts are booked in advance with a three-hour minimum, and you are employed by Puffin rather than hired directly by the household.

What the role involves

  • Care for children aged 0–12 in the family’s home, following the routines they already have
  • Meals, naps, school runs and activities as the booking requires
  • Overnight care where you are available for it
  • Keep the family updated on how the shift went

What we need from you

  • Clear a CRRP vulnerable-sector criminal record check through the BC Ministry of Justice
  • Verifiable childcare references
  • Current first aid certification, or willingness to obtain it
  • Legally entitled to work in Canada

Babysitter

$20–$25/hr

Occasional and evening childcare for families who need a few hours rather than an ongoing arrangement. A good fit if you want flexible shifts you accept one at a time, with a three-hour minimum per booking.

What the role involves

  • Short-notice and scheduled evening care in the family’s home
  • Bedtime routines, meals and supervised play
  • Follow the family’s instructions for the evening and leave the home as you found it

What we need from you

  • Clear a CRRP vulnerable-sector criminal record check through the BC Ministry of Justice
  • Childcare references we can reach
  • Current first aid certification, or willingness to obtain it
  • Legally entitled to work in Canada

Doula / Postpartum Doula

$25–$32/hr

In-home support for families in the first weeks after birth: newborn care, breastfeeding support, light household help, and overnight shifts so parents can sleep. Days and overnights both available.

What the role involves

  • Newborn care and settling, including overnight shifts
  • Breastfeeding and feeding support within your scope of training
  • Light household support so the family can rest
  • Recognise when something needs a clinician and say so

What we need from you

  • Clear a CRRP vulnerable-sector criminal record check through the BC Ministry of Justice
  • Doula training or equivalent demonstrable postpartum experience
  • Comfortable with overnight work if you are applying for overnights
  • Legally entitled to work in Canada

Behaviour Intervention (BI) Specialist

$25–$30/hr

In-home behaviour intervention for autistic children, working under the supervision of a registered clinician. We are hiring ahead of the pediatric service launch, so early hires help shape how it runs.

What the role involves

  • Deliver behaviour intervention in the family’s home, following the supervising clinician’s plan
  • Record session data accurately and hand it back to your supervisor
  • Follow the child’s existing routines and regulation strategies
  • Keep parents informed in plain language

What we need from you

  • Clear a CRRP vulnerable-sector criminal record check through the BC Ministry of Justice
  • Behaviour intervention training, or coursework plus supervised hours
  • Willing to work under a registered clinician’s supervision
  • Legally entitled to work in Canada

Speech-Language Pathology Assistant (SLPA)

$25–$35/hr

Home-visit speech and language support for children, delivered under the supervision of a registered speech-language pathologist. Hiring ahead of the pediatric service launch.

What the role involves

  • Carry out speech and language activities set by the supervising SLP
  • Record progress and report it back to your supervisor
  • Adapt sessions to the child at home, where they are most themselves
  • Keep parents informed in plain language

What we need from you

  • Clear a CRRP vulnerable-sector criminal record check through the BC Ministry of Justice
  • SLPA diploma or equivalent training
  • Willing to work under a registered SLP’s supervision
  • Legally entitled to work in Canada

Occupational Therapy Assistant (OTA)

$25–$35/hr

Home-visit occupational therapy support for children, delivered under the supervision of a registered occupational therapist. Hiring ahead of the pediatric service launch.

What the role involves

  • Carry out therapy activities set by the supervising OT
  • Record progress and report it back to your supervisor
  • Work with the child’s real home environment rather than a clinic setup
  • Keep parents informed in plain language

What we need from you

  • Clear a CRRP vulnerable-sector criminal record check through the BC Ministry of Justice
  • OTA diploma or equivalent training
  • Willing to work under a registered OT’s supervision
  • Legally entitled to work in Canada

The three pediatric roles are open now, ahead of that service launching — early hires help shape how it runs. All specialist work is done under a registered clinician's supervision.

How this differs from other caregiving work

You are an employee, not a contractor

Puffin employs you directly. That means source deductions are handled, you are covered by WorkSafeBC, and our commercial general liability insurance covers the work — none of which is true when you find families yourself on a listing site.

We find the families

No profile to maintain, no messages to answer, no negotiating your own rate with a stranger. Shifts come to you with the details already agreed.

You get paid for the shift you accepted

Bookings carry a three-hour minimum, and families are charged after the session rather than before. You are not chasing anyone for payment.

The vetting is the point

Every caregiver clears a CRRP vulnerable-sector check before their first shift. It is work to get through, and it is the reason families trust the person we send.

Where you would work

Puffin holds an Intermunicipal Business Licence covering 16 municipalities in the Lower Mainland and Fraser Valley, and we are recruiting across all of them — the 100+ roles are spread over every city on this list, not concentrated in one. You tell us the areas you can reach; we only send you bookings in them.
