Service Paradigm Overview
Respite is care for your child so that you get a break — someone competent taking over for a few hours so you can rest, work, attend an appointment, or spend unhurried time with a sibling. It is not therapy: nobody is working through a plan or collecting data on goals during a respite shift. The work is to keep your child safe and occupied on their own terms, following the routine and regulation strategies they already have rather than bringing a programme along. Puffin Services' in-home respite for autistic children is $42/hr and is being staffed by BI-trained specialists — people trained in behaviour intervention, providing respite rather than delivering a therapy programme. It is being designed to accept eligible MCFD Autism Funding. Standard Operating Expectations & Handover Protocols
Delivered in your home. Puffin Services has no clinic, so there is nowhere to travel to and no centre appointment to schedule around.
Staffed by BI-trained specialists — trained in behaviour intervention, so a meltdown is not mistaken for misbehaviour.
Government CRRP background cleared (audited by the BC Ministry of Justice), as every Puffin caregiver is before any placement.
Your child's own routine is followed rather than renegotiated — their order of events, their preferred activities, their food, their regulation strategies.
Being designed to accept eligible MCFD Autism Funding; whether your funding applies depends on your child's plan and current funding rules, so confirm with your funding contact.
