The question families actually get stuck on is *how many hours*, and no price list answers that. Here is how to work it out.
Start from the week, not the budget
The instinct is to pick a number you can afford and fit care into it. That produces a schedule that covers the cheapest hours rather than the ones that matter.
Instead, write down the week as it actually is and mark the points where it fails. Almost always there are two or three specific recurring moments — the morning routine that takes ninety minutes and exhausts everyone, the afternoon nobody is there, the evening that reliably goes wrong.
Care aimed at those points changes the week. Care spread thinly across it does not.
What a visit actually costs
Three hours is the minimum, so that is the unit to think in.
Per week, that is roughly $456–$504 a month for one weekly visit, or double that for two.
Longer visits scale straightforwardly, with one wrinkle worth knowing: past the hours a single caregiver covers, hours bill as overtime at 1.5x. Longer bookings are staffed by more than one caregiver in sequence, which is why a twelve-hour booking carries no overtime while an eleven-hour one does. The full pattern is on the rate card.
The three common shapes
One visit a week. Usually companion care, usually the start. Enough to break isolation and to find out what is actually needed. Roughly $456–$504 a month.
Two to three visits a week. The point at which a real routine forms and a caregiver genuinely knows the person. Frequently a mix — an HCA morning for personal care, a companion afternoon for everything else.
Daily. A different order of commitment, and the point at which families usually also start comparing against residential options. Worth being honest that at this level the arithmetic changes and it is a conversation rather than a booking.
Do not forget the third booking
If you are the one providing care, some of those hours should be yours. Family respite relief is $42/hr and exists for exactly that. Family carers book for their parent constantly and for themselves almost never — respite for the person doing the caring covers why.
Two things that reduce the number you need
Ten delivered hours earn a free hour. All three senior services qualify, so hours accumulate across them.
The right service costs less than the wrong one repeated. Companion care that cannot do the transfers your parent needs is not cheaper than HCA support; it is a visit that does not solve the problem. If you are unsure, start at HCA and step down — an HCA can do everything companion care covers and not the reverse.
